Design at Scale™

Find what’s really holding your design team back from becoming an integrated design function in your organisation.

At the intersection of design thinking, service design, human-computer interaction and product design development is the unique spot of a functionally integrated design leader. No politics, no buzzwords, no jargon, no extra meetings, no manipulation — a pure, clean, data-driven decision-making business foundation that allows creative minds to shape the future of the organisation through design.

Design at Scale™ is a Master Class that turns product assumptions, symptoms, and competing opinions into justified, practical actions that anyone in the business can act on.

The critical distinction in future design delivery in your organisation is not about design talent or resourcing capabilities. It is about defining a design function that changes the entire organisation through broadcasting without losing ownership, reach, or business impact. Enabling organisational experimentation under the safety guardrails in a newly established Design Operating System reflects on the maturity and decision capability in an exponential organisation:

Problem Definition

The work is moving.
The design is not.

Running a successful Product Design Team under SDLC:

— The product work is happening.
— The roadmap and planning are moving.
— Research and copy have been consolidated.
— Flows and user journeys are being defined.
— Features are shipping based on Excel.

But something feels off:

— The sales team is still explaining the basic functionality.
— Customers moved on to a new feature without warning.
— The work is not improving team trust in the org.
— Conversion and adoption are weaker.
— The same questions keep returning.

A plausible explanation we often come to:

— Have a follow-up meeting.
— Come up with another hypothesis.
— Rewrite the original brief or redesign.
— Let’s build/introduce more features.
— My favourite: Initiate more experiments.

Financial Implication of passive inactivity:

— The operational cost isn't spent.
— The time of not building the right thing.
— The meetings generating more decisions.
— The promises of revenue arriving later.
— The lost learning that hasn't been integrated.

Regrettably, there isn't one obvious explanation:

— The customer profile could be wrong.
— The journey is too complicated.
— Weak product that needs to build trust.

Traditionally, we tend to focus outwards:

— until we realise none of them is actually under our control.
— the business works as a system under operating procedures.
— connects the dots and establishes a transparency layer.
— for faster experimentation and flawless integration.

Case Study

From 9 months of delays to launched in 9 days.

An average SDLC design integration is 12 weeks. This gives the team the ability to standardise and operationally integrate with the rest of the team and the organisational unit. With a specific lens, we/you can adjust it in a fraction of the time.

Read Clarity Report

A Design at Scale has been relentlessly tested in verticals like Automotive, Aviation, Broadcast, Fintech, Media, and Retail, and in environments like start-ups, scale-ups, and enterprise in-house teams. Many participants were asking whether the agreement sits with leadership or operational delivery. The Academy found a fundamental commonality among businesses: while they focused solely on customer journey transformation, the most common competitive advantage was de-risked managed delivery.

Once the foundation is successfully integrated, the team can effectively double delivery speed. This is reflected in a 5x increase in capability in controlled testing and functional integration of the design system, which became a guiding principle for the data architecture of the newly established Operating System.

Design
Maturity
Matrix

Six steps to evaluate the maturity of your design team in your organisation. This helps us identify whether you can scale the design function for sustainable growth through strategic alignment or progressive change. The Maturity considers states as: not present, reactive, structured, integrated, scaled, on (systematised).

01 Communications
How is your organisation communicating design decisions?

What it’s for

We need to establish a communication pattern in your team, unit, and organisation so you can clearly distinguish ownership of the communication flow and its critical impact on delivery.
What I do
I clarify the path of least resistance for design and engineering so the business can track it and stay informed without slowing down creation.
What this gives you
A transparent direction: all engaged parties get the right information at the right time, plus an assisted design pipeline that enables less refactoring and testing.
02 Capability (knowledge)
What is your organisation’s capability, and how do you or your teammates remain in the loop?
What it’s for
The intent of governance is different from an integrated experience. 72% of design work is wasted on variation and experimentation—what will happen if this information becomes a guiding principle for your team’s success?
What I do
I follow “the chosen” path of product design delivery closely. Your feedback and diagnoses will show where your team remains confused, siloed, or embarrassed, doubling effort and potentially prompting them to seek professional guidance, and help increase their capability and shorten response time.
What this gives you
An evidence-based canvas of your design teams' challenges that reflects their “delivery” reality, and how applied knowledge, governance, learning, and transparency elevate delivery impact.
03 Feedback
How does your organisation collect, analyse, and implement internal feedback loops?
What it’s for
Collecting feedback occasionally becomes rarely useful, preventing us from understanding the bigger picture and its unresolved impact on scale and growth profits.
What I do
I compare your feedback with evidence-based data and implement it across the delivery cycle. We’ll define sensible checkpoints where you can collect more structural feedback and identify integration points where feedback serves the “betterment” of your team or design function.
What this gives you
A sensitive diagnostic reveals the clarity and reality gap: feedback loops carry important information about product performance, WoW, and individuals. I’ll show you how to get bets out of it.
04 Measurement
How does your organisation measure what matters across diverse teams and disciplines?
What it’s for
Measurement has become part of product design delivery. When we ask how much has actually improved since we started measuring, the answers vary a lot.
What I do
I trace the gap between commercial, operational, and strategic costs, looking for opportunities to integrate our learnings back. 1% improvement a day is 250% improvement a year.
What this gives you
A clear, accountable plan for what to measure and the cost of the gap in the design function, so we can clearly articulate to the business the cost of unresolved internal tasks.
05 Sustainability
How does the organisation create the smallest repeatable tasks that transform it from within?
What it’s for
All human ventures have repeatable parts that need to operate at their best. Accounting, cash flow, operations, and even the design function itself. The question we are asking here is: what is the foundation of a sustainable, high-performing design team?
What I do
I combine the previous model and the one that you are operating with. This lets us define the ideal solution for the next 6-12 months, with separate swimlanes for clear communication, updates, feedback, learning, and intentional growth of the design team into a design function.
What this gives you
A focused, directional proof of a robust department foundation that reflects business development needs, accessibility standards, and prepares the team for the future Design Operating System.
06 Systems
How does the organisation move from humans to agents, and where is the (current) right split?
What it’s for
A canvas design of a future design department that mostly governs the guardrails, skills, workflow and agents while simultaneously broadcasting change across the organisation.
What I do
The primary focus is to prepare you and your team for fundamental change in product design delivery in the SDLC (or ADLC). Drawing from my previous experience, we’ll create a canvas that will serve as a map to monitor, test, improve, and communicate changes within your design department.
What this gives you
A foundation that gives you a map to navigate changes in a structured, well-organised way, reflecting your team's and organisational growth.

Clarity

A well-captured design foundation in accessible forms creates more clarity than any planning deck.

Believe

Shared values and beliefs attract more like-minded talent to an exponential organisation.

Trust

Well-distributed trust across the team members and leaders drives the best decision forward.

Direction

The compass was invented before the clock. It is better to stay on the right course than be on time with the wrong one.

Discipline

The character and culture of an organisation is defined by the most mundane tasks it has to perform.

Determination

The right culture is not built on occasional judgment; it is built on relentless persuasion of belief.

Testimonials

Jiri applies a rare combination of focus and creativity which puts the end user experience at the forefront of everything he does. This benefits the business and also helped me personally to perform at my top level as a product manager. His good nature and pragmatic approach to design made my products better than I had initially envisaged and his experience of technical implementation meant he was as great an asset at the UX stage as he was when it came to development and delivery. I would highly recommend Jiri as a colleague and a mentor and would hope to work with him again in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions over chat or discovery calls.

FAQ.

What exactly is a Design at Scale™?
A Design at Scale™ is a strategic approach for product design delivery in complex software delivery environments.
Who is this for?
Design at Scale™ is packaged knowledge for design leaders who want to become better managers and for managers who want to get better at making design decisions. The fundamentals focus on managing up and managing down. Therefore, anyone who has become a lead, manager, director, Head of, VP or SVP of product experience will benefit from the learning.
Is this a Product or Experience audit?
No. Such an audit focused outward on product, where we’ll be focusing inward — how things are created and how well they can be replicated to increase the value of design in your organisation
Why do I need it?
We often find three categories of leaders — working with us.
Reactive — delivery responds to random tasks, and fulfilment feels chaotic, with little impact. The design team is looking for a mobilised approach that delivers consistency and predictability.
Structured — the team have the basics covered, and work gets done. Too many meetings, defined silos, and heavy politics prevent operational excellence from integrating.
Scaled — design delivery is smooth and fully integrated, and the design team is looking to accelerate design impact beyond fully automated internal delivery.
What do you need from me?
I’m not a fan of massive, extensive agency research exercises—your attendance and completing the Design Maturity Matrix will be sufficient. Each session will deep dive into specifics you might prepare beforehand, but it’s not necessary.
What if we are in different stage?
Everyone is at a different stage.
Some have no designers at all, and some manage a 40-80 member team. These challenges are proportionally different. Having a design leader in the same room will be disrespectful.
There are essentially three stages and areas I/we help.
Mobilise — you are starting or redefining how design is done in your organisation.
Operate — you are growing, with some setbacks from meetings, silos, and politics.
Accelerate — you are fully operational and integrated, and you're looking at what’s next.
What if our business has multiple departmenst?
I/we have two accessible models — as you buy information and not a time we’ll define in the “Dare to Scale” call, you can choose whether you want to grow your knowledge and integrate on your own, or bring me in as a consultant to shadow you and your team.
Can DaS™ work for Startups & Scale Ups?
Same as the above. I have worked with start-ups, scale-ups, SMEs, and large and enterprise clients, all of which implemented DaS™ in very specific ways. The simple answer is yes.
Will you redesign or rebuild our solution?
No. DaS™ is not involved in redesigning your product or service. However, we will certainly influence how the product is delivered and how value is added.
What happens if the Evaluation reveals a larger piece of work?
If the initial call, evaluation or our engagement shows the opportunity for greater engagement, we’ll discuss it in proportion to the anticipated outcome. We offer knowledge, not time for a fee.
How certain are the diagnostics?
We have combined MBA, MA. Design and Engineering degree with an HBR programme focused on scaling design operations and sustainable delivery. We have an 87% success rate.
How long does it take?
Altogether, it’s 9 engagements. Whether you decide to work on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis is up to you. For the “I Make” program, we recommend all 9 calls in one month. We also have participants who have done it over 9 days. As for the “We Transform“ it is 9 weeks, referring to 1 day a week of full engagement.
I make 45mx 9 = 1 day
We transform 1d x 9 (+summary)= 10d (over 9 weeks)
What happens after delivery?
All clients have direct access to seek further advice and purchase additional services. No cap here unless I’m oversubscribed. Then we’ll draw on priority.
Can I/we share the DaS™ with my team?
Yes, all work you’ll access in our session is for your team too. You decide.
Can I/we talk to you before I buy?
Yes. We offer a “Dare to Scale“ discovery call. Just grab your slot.
